The Historic Center and Spiaggia Grande
The heart of Positano is a maze of narrow streets, stairways, and steep lanes that wind through the village, lined with shops, artisan workshops, and fashionable boutiques. Walking through these charming streets leads to the famous Spiaggia Grande, the town’s main beach.
From here you can enjoy an extraordinary view: in front lies the crystal-clear sea of the Amalfi Coast, while behind you the colorful town climbs dramatically up the mountainside, creating a truly spectacular scene.
In the main square stands the historic Church of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most iconic landmarks of Positano. Its famous dome covered with colorful majolica tiles dominates the skyline and can be seen from many points throughout the village. Inside the church is a precious Byzantine icon of the Madonna, deeply venerated by the local community.
The Most Beautiful Beaches of Positano
In addition to Spiaggia Grande, Positano offers several smaller and quieter beaches, perfect for those seeking relaxation and breathtaking views.
Fornillo Beach – a more secluded beach that can be reached with a pleasant panoramic walk.
Arienzo Beach – famous for its long staircase and sunshine that lasts until late afternoon.
Fiumicello Beach – a small bay surrounded by nature and full of charm.
The Li Galli Islands and the Myth of the Sirens
Just a few miles from the coast lies the Li Galli archipelago, also known as the Sirenuse Islands. It consists of three small islands: Gallo Lungo, La Rotonda, and Castelluccio.
According to ancient legend, these islands were the home of the mythical sirens who tried to enchant Ulysses during the Odyssey. Today the archipelago represents one of the most enchanting landscapes that can be admired from the sea along the Amalfi Coast.
